industrial applications. Hard water can lead to scale formation in boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and pipelines, which reduces energy efficiency, increases maintenance costs, and shortens equipment lifespan.<\/p><p data-start=\"370\" data-end=\"684\">The process typically employs <strong data-start=\"400\" data-end=\"426\">ion exchange softeners<\/strong>, where hard water passes through a resin bed that exchanges calcium and magnesium ions with sodium or potassium ions. When the resin becomes saturated, it is regenerated using a concentrated salt solution (brine).<\/p>                    <\/div>\n\t\t\t\t                    <div class=\"clearfix inactive\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Demineralization is the removal of all cations (e.g. calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, Iron and other heavy metals)\u00a0and all anions (e.g. bicarbonate alkalinity, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, silica and CO<sub>2<\/sub>)\u00a0from a solution, typically water. The cations are replaced with H<sup>+<\/sup>\u00a0ions and the anions are replaced with OH<sup>-<\/sup>\u00a0ions to form water.
